Robbers now disguise as ATM users at night- FG warns

The Federal Government urged Nigerians again to be very vigilant and alert when using ATM machines at night in commercial banks have devised a new method to lay ambush at ATM machine points, pretending to be ATM users and in the process rob unsuspecting victims.
According to the Police, “On July 30th at about 12:10am, a male bank customer went to withdraw money from one of the ATMs at the Central Business District, Abuja. Three young men pretending to have come to withdraw money attacked him. The victim raised an alarm which attracted nearby police patrol team to the scene. The hoodlums took to their heels upon sighting the advancing police team. One automatic pistol fell from one of the suspects and was recovered by the Police. Luckily for the victim, the robbers were not successful in disposing him of his money. On July 28, another bank customer was attacked by robbers and disposed of the money he withdrew from ATM.”

This warning is contained in a statement released by Mrs. O.K Abegunde on behalf of the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information.
Abegunde said,
“The attention of the Federal Government has been drawn to the operation of armed robbers who attack members of the public while using the Automated Teller Machines (ATM) at night. The general public is advised to be vigilant and alert while using the ATM and should use machines that are located in well-lit premises with adequate security around. Furthermore, the Federal Government advices all banks to ensure that ATM’s are situated in properly lit premises and should ensure that they engage night guards to enhance the safety of their customers.”
