World Number 1 Serena Williams kept her hopes up for a calendar Grand Slam alive, after she defeated her sister Venus Williams 6-2 1-6 6-3 in the US Open quarterfinals.
The 33 year old is now just two victories from joining Maureen Connolly, Margaret Court and Steffi Graf as the only women to win all four major singles titles in a season.
She will now face unseeded Italian, Roberta Vinci in the semifinals on Thursday.
Serena has not lost a set to Vinci in any of their previous four matches, beating her, 6-4, 6-3, in the quarterfinals in Toronto last month.
However, the 33 year old after the quarterfinal victory admitted she expected a tough match against Vinci in the semi finals.
She said, “She’s going to present a completely different game than my last three matches, four matches, she has nothing to lose. I don’t, either. So we’re just going to go out and have a lot of fun.”
Both sisters have played each other in four straight Grand Slam finals.
