About 65 persons have been confirmed dead with 80 others injured after a crane crashed into a mosque in the holy city of Mecca, Saudi Arabia, the country’s defence authority confirms.
The Saudi civil defence authority confirmed the attack via a tweet on its official page.
It is not clear what happened, but images from the scene showed part of a huge red crane had crashed through the mosque roof.
The accident comes just weeks before the Muslim annual hajj pilgrimage.
Hundreds of thousands of people are expected to arrive in the Saudi city from all over the world later this month for the Hajj pilgrimage.
